President Trump’s New Birth Control Rules are Actually a Concession to Religious Dogma in Disguise
November 9, 2018, Washington, DC — The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) released the following statement regarding the Trump administration’s pair of birth control rules.
“The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) opposes this assault on our reproductive rights. The final rules allow employers, universities, and non-profits to refuse birth control coverage to women. They provide a blanket opt-out — citing religious or moral objections — to providing this basic health care, leaving millions without access to birth control and reversing important public health progress made under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). And, it’s government-sanctioned discrimination, plain and simple.
“Additionally, the administration issued a new rule that would deny private insurance coverage for abortions through the ACA’s marketplace, affecting more than a million women. It’s shameful that instead of bolstering health care in response to a clear wish from the American people to improve it, these rules do nothing but threaten our ability to receive vital health services.”
The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action.
