FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

President Trump Intensifies Efforts to Sabotage the Nation’s Health Care

October 12, 2017, Washington, DC – The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) denounced president Trump’s new executive order on the Affordable Care Act that is designed to sabotage the provision of health care in the US. NCJW CEO Nancy K. Kaufman released the following statement:

“President Trump’s latest effort to sabotage the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by destabilizing the insurance market will allow the sale of more policies that offer less coverage and fail to meet the standards of good health care set under existing law. It is designed to lure younger, healthier people to purchase these cheaper plans, further driving up the cost of more inclusive insurance plans offered on the ACA exchanges and thus destabilizing the market place.

“The order will cost millions of Americans dearly. They will pay for inferior coverage that will help little if they are stricken by serious illness or accident, and not at all for more routine care. The order will open the door to abuses that were all too common before health care reform became law. The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) will challenge it however we can, including joining the legal efforts to come.

“Trump’s policy is a cynical move that betrays his campaign promise to the American people to provide better health care that costs less. The executive order is more than an expression of presidential pique. It is deeply immoral and must be condemned.”
