FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 14, 2017, Washington, DC – The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) today expressed horror at the attack on members of Congress at a baseball practice. NCJW CEO Nancy K. Kaufman released the following statement:
“This attack occurs the same week of the anniversary of two other devastating mass shooting incidents — the attack on members of an African American church in Charleston, SC, and another on the Pulse nightclub and its LGBTQ patrons in Orlando, FL. They bespeak a hatred circulating in our society that must be extinguished.
“Ongoing gun violence and mass shooting attacks like this one again call into question how guns used are obtained and by whom. While Congress will undoubtedly investigate this shooting, we implore that they do more to stem the tide of this senseless violence. Once and for all, lawmakers must act to restrict access to guns, work to end gun violence, and ensure our families and communities are safe.”
The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms.
