Enduring Advocate Award 2020: Myrna Wertheimer
Myrna Wertheimer, NCJW Essex Section
An active NCJW leader since 1974, Myrna’s focus on Community Services and Advocacy to empower women-led her to become an expert on domestic violence. She became a founder of The Rachel Coalition (a community response to domestic violence in the Jewish home), and the NCJW/Essex Teen Dating Abuse Awareness Project, sending trained volunteers into high schools. Myrna led a sellout production of The Vagina Monologues, a rally for One Billion Rising, and a production of Slut: The Play that opened the door for every Newark teen to receive counseling on sexism and sexual violence, and the NCJW/Essex project Carpool Conversations, helping parents with contemporary issues. Myrna thanks her extremely supportive family.
