Tell Congress to condemn sexual violence as a weapon of war

In the days and weeks following the devastating terror attacks in Israel on October 7th, 2023, the world learned the details of the horrific sexual violence faced by Israeli civilians at the hands of Hamas. Many brave survivors of this violence, including freed hostages, have spoken out about the rape and abuse that they faced, and a UN report found “clear and convincing evidence” of the atrocities. Despite this, the international community has not done nearly enough to unequivocally address or condemn the brutal sexual violence committed against Israeli civilians.

NCJW has been working tirelessly to demand justice for victims and to urge the international community to recognize and condemn these atrocities. Two bipartisan congressional vehicles will help lift up and ensure these stories are told and hold the perpetrators accountable. Senate Resolution 505, introduced by Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Katie Britt (R-AL), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Deb Fischer (R-NE), and House Resolution 1147, introduced by Representatives Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Mariannette Jane Miller-Meeks (R-IA), Lois Frankel (D-FL), and Jennifer Kiggans (R-VA), both condemn the sexual violence committed by Hamas on October 7th, offer support to Israeli victims, and demand accountability for those who perpetrated these atrocities.

We must condemn use of rape and sexual assault as a weapon of war every time it occurs, including against Israelis on October 7th. We must demand justice for victims of sexual violence everywhere. Tell Congress to pass these resolutions and secure justice for victims and families still suffering in the aftermath of this horror.
