Pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act!
At NCJW, we believe that our vote is our voice. In pursuit of the Jewish value of tzedek, or justice, we work to educate and engage advocates to drive voter turnout and expand voting rights and to support election laws, policies, and practices that ensure every voice can be heard at the ballot box.
Voting is the foundation of American democracy, yet not all citizens are able to exercise their right to vote. In the wake of the Supreme Court’s 2013 Shelby and 2021 Brnovich decisions, discriminatory voting laws across many states are undermining free and fair access to the ballot. The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act would restore and strengthen our freedom to vote by ensuring any changes to voting rules that could discriminate against voters based on race or background are federally reviewed in order to better protect the right to vote.
Our democracy is strongest when it is reflective of, and responsible to, the diversity of its people. Urge your Members of Congress to pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to ensure we all have an equal say in our future.
