Position Summary:
National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) seeks a dynamic, strategic, and mission-driven Director of Marketing & Communications to lead and elevate our brand, messaging, and storytelling.  As a Jewish values-driven organization committed to advancing the rights and well-being of women, children, and families in the United States and Israel, we need a creative leader who can craft compelling narratives, expand our reach, and strengthen our moral voice in the public sphere.

The ideal candidate is a bold communicator, an innovative marketer, and a savvy strategist with a passion for changemaking. Reporting to the Chief Growth Officer, this role will oversee all aspects of branding, public relations, digital marketing, and external communications  — ensuring that NCJW’s impact is widely recognized and deeply felt. They will lead a talented team, manage high-profile media relationships, and work cross-functionally to drive engagement, advocacy, and fundraising efforts. This position is ideally based in Washington, DC and directly oversees the Press Secretary and the Digital Communications Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Communications and Public Relations

  • As a senior leader within NCJW, the Director of Marketing & Communications will play a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s public presence and positioning NCJW as a thought leader in the advocacy space.
  • Develop and implement an integrated communications strategy to advance NCJW’s mission, amplify thought leadership, and engage key audiences.
  • Manage the Press Secretary and oversee media relations efforts, ensuring proactive media outreach and rapid response to key issues.
  • Support sections with thought leadership and rapid response social media and press relations.
  • Develop and execute a proactive media strategy that builds strong relationships with journalists, influencers, and media outlets — ensuring that NCJW’s mission and advocacy work are consistently amplified in the public arena.
  • Develop and implement a storytelling strategy that highlights the impact of NCJW’s work, bringing to life the voices of women, children, and families we serve.
  • Lead the creation of messaging frameworks, press materials, and op-eds to support NCJW’s advocacy and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Ensure consistency in messaging across all communication channels.
  • Support CEO on speaking engagements and written remarks

Marketing and Brand Management

  • Oversee the execution of NCJW’s marketing strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Lead the development and execution of digital marketing campaigns, including paid and organic social media, email marketing, and advertising.
  • Bring a marketing mindset to existing programs and campaigns.
  • Manage NCJW’s brand identity, ensuring consistency across all materials and platforms.
  • Work in close collaboration with the CGO to ensure brand strategy informs all marketing efforts.
  • Oversee website strategy, content updates, and user experience enhancements to optimize engagement and accessibility.

Digital and Social Media Management

  • Harness the power of digital media to create compelling, action-driven content that mobilizes our supporters and advances our advocacy efforts.
  • Develop and oversee a robust social media strategy to grow audience engagement and advocacy.
  • Lead content strategy and execution across all digital platforms, including website, email, and social media channels.
  • Analyze digital performance metrics and implement data-driven improvements.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Supervise Press Secretary and Digital Communications Manager
  • Provide strong leadership to the marketing and communications team, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.
  • Supervise the Press Secretary and any additional communications staff or consultants.
  • Work closely with internal teams, including advocacy, development, and programs, to ensure cohesive messaging and strategic alignment.
  • Manage external agency and vendor relationships as needed.

Key Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing and communications strategies.
  • Strong experience in digital marketing, social media strategy, and advertising.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Experience managing media relations and working with journalists.
  • Knowledge of brand management and audience engagement strategies.
  • Ability to translate complex issues into compelling narratives.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Familiarity with Jewish philanthropy and the landscape.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Experience working in advocacy, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations preferred.
  • Interest in Jewish values, social justice, and progressive advocacy issues

Salary and Benefits

Salary range: $130,000 – $150,000 annually  — commensurate with experience.

Paid Federal and Jewish Holidays.
