Israel Benefit Luncheon
June 12, 2008, New York, NY

This event celebrated NCJW's pioneering work in Israel, where myriad programs foster and support education, promote empowerment, and bridge the gaps in society for Israel's vulnerable women, children, and families. NCJW also honored some of the philanthropists, activists, and leaders who make this work possible. All event proceeds benefited the NCJW Israel Program.


National Convention 2008
March 9-11, 2008, Chicago, IL

Hundreds gathered in Chicago to speak out and make their mark on the future of NCJW. NCJW members debated and voted on the resolutions, bylaws, and policies that will set the stage for the next triennium. New NCJW leaders were elected, and nationally renowned speakers shared their insights on a variety of critical topics. Attendees also had the opportunity to network with other leaders of social change from across the country, and celebrate the outstanding work of NCJW volunteers and sections.

Speakers and honorees included:

  • Cecile Richards -- President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund
  • Linda Wertheimer -- Senior National Correspondent, National Public Radio
  • Theodore M. Shaw -- Director-Counsel and President, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund
  • Rabbi Marla J. Feldman, Esq -- Director, Commission on Social Action of Reform Judaism

Plan A: NCJW's Campaign for Contraceptive Access
Press Conference and Luncheon

June 7, 2007, Washington, DC

Plan A: NCJW's Campaign for Contraceptive Access educates and empowers individuals to advocate for women's universal access to contraceptive information and health services.

Coinciding with the 42nd anniversary of the historic Griswold v. Connecticut Supreme Court ruling, NCJW launched a new campaign at a joint press conference with the Women Donors Network (WDN) and the Communications Consortium Media Center (CCMC). This event marked the public unveiling of two new efforts to secure and protect access to contraceptive information and health services: Plan A and Birth Control Watch. Speakers included NCJW President Phyllis Snyder, Birth Control Watch spokesperson Cristina Page, former assistant commissioner for women's health at the FDA Dr. Susan Wood, and Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY).

Leaders' Retreat 2007
August 3-5, 2007, Florham Park, NJ

This annual event was strategically designed to help NCJW leaders hone their leadership skills, effectively mobilize members, network with colleagues, and obtain the latest news about NCJW's initiatives. Open to select NCJW leaders by invitation only, the retreat highlighted NCJW's commitment to organizational and professional development as a means to achieving its mission.


Mission to Israel 2007
October 14-20, 2007, Israel

NCJW members and leaders traveled to Israel for expert topical briefings, presentations by NCJW coalition partners, an intimate Shabbat celebration, and tours of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem. The group also visited NCJW Israel Program sites and met some of the women, children and families in Israel whose lives NCJW works to improve.
